Hello I'm Karen Edwards and the artist behind The Red Button Press, a Letterpress printmaking studio in Liverpool, England.
Vintage wood and metal type as well as hand carved blocks are used to print posters, cards, stationery and fabric. Helping me with the printing are a variety of hand cranked, pedal powered printing presses named Ada, Tom and Babs, Ruth and Brian.
Being printed by hand - The Red Button Press is an environmentally friendly business and uses safewash inks, recycled cards, papers and envelopes and biodegradable packaging.
We are all dedicated to preserving the art of Letterpress, now on the endangered craft list by creating work, print demonstrations and workshops.

What is letterpress printing?
Letterpress printing is a relief printing process which involves working with wood and metal type to produce prints.
The process of ‘moveable type’ introduced by Johannes Gutenberg in the 15th Century played an important role in the spread of information and the acquisition of knowledge and was the main form of printing books, newspapers and informative texts for 500 years until the introduction of digital processes.
However a few traditional letterpress printers survived and artists and designers are enjoying a revival in this beautiful tactile, craft - reinventing and embracing modern technologies to ensure the technique is preserved and enjoyed for future generations.
